Maria Jakobsen – About

Maria Jakobsen is a Norwegian writer and journalist based in London, UK. She graduated from Lancaster University in 2022 with a First Class BA in Film and Creative Writing, and is currently pursuing an MA in Magazine Journalism in London this year. She is the Editor in Chief of New Creatives magazine and the founder of the fashion blog On & Off.

Her literary work has appeared in Overheard and Love Letters Magazine, and her poem ‘My Personal Botany’ was longlisted for The Phare‘s WriteWords competition.

Maria has a few years experience working freelance while pursuing her BA and MA. From October 2021 to June 2022 Maria worked as a freelance journalist for Localfolk magazine. She has interviewed several artists about their practice, and her pieces aim to capture their uniqueness and passions. Her work can so far be found in the Oslo and Northern Norway (print and digital) issues.

Maria is currently focused on masters degree as well as her newest project, a fashion blog dedicated to bringing Scandinavian fashion news to an international audience. After graduating she hopes to secure a job as a fashion journalist.

Besides her journalistic pursuits, Maria still has a love for creative writing and hopes to publish a poetry collection one day. She loves to use her writing to explore the intricacies of every day life, as well as to celebrate her queer identity. When she’s not writing, she can be found learning new crafts, spending time with friends, watching embarrassing amounts of reality TV, or petting the neighbourhood cats.

She also has experience with freelance copy-writing work, including SEO keyword and optimalisation experience, and can be contacted for more information about this.
